Early Childhood Programs: Considerations for the Future
The purpose of this paper is to focus the conversation around policy and intent for Early Childhood programs and services in Sudbury Public Schools. It does not develop all of the details, fiscal or strategic planning, or implementation decisions; it will communicate history, research, and current services. It will present position statements to consider as we plan for Sudbury's early childhood community. It is designed to assist the School Committee in thinking about direction and needs as it wrestles with the complexities of space and growth planning.
Lead Toys
We have all heard the recent concerns about lead paint on toys and other toy safety issues. SPS has taken steps to evaluate all toys used in the early childhood classrooms and, if questionable, removed them from use. We also receive periodic updates from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, National Safety Council and other agencies about at-risk toys and materials, which we act upon immediately.
With the assistance of our early childhood educators, we have recently completed an assessment of toys and classroom materials. To the best of our current knowledge, there are no toys containing lead paint or on an official recall list in any classroom in SPS.
For information about the safety of the toys you may have in your home please visit www.cpsc.gov, www.toyinfo.org, or www.nsc.org/issues/lead.
